How to Get More Google Reviews (Without Being Annoying)
June 18, 2026· Johnny Gregory
For a local business, reviews are everything. They’re the first thing customers check, and they directly affect whether you show up in Google’s local results. The good news: getting more of them isn’t about luck or nagging — it’s about having a simple, repeatable ask. Here’s how.
Ask at the peak moment
The best time to ask is right when the customer is happiest — the job’s done, they’re thrilled, the value is fresh. Wait a week and that feeling fades. Build the ask into the moment you finish.
Make it stupidly easy
Every extra step loses people. Don’t say “look us up on Google.” Instead:
- Use your Google review short link (Google gives you one) and text or email it directly.
- Put a QR code on the invoice, the counter, the receipt.
- One tap, leave a review, done.
Just ask — out loud
The single biggest reason businesses don’t get reviews is that they never actually ask. Most happy customers are glad to help; they just don’t think of it. A simple “If you’ve got 30 seconds, a quick Google review really helps us out” works wonders.
Respond to every one
Thank the good ones. Respond calmly and professionally to the bad ones (future customers read how you handle problems). Google also favors businesses that engage with their reviews.
Never buy fake reviews
It’s against Google’s rules, customers can smell it, and it can get your profile suspended. A steady trickle of real reviews beats a pile of fake ones every time.
The honest part
The hard part isn’t any single step — it’s doing it every time, consistently, until it’s a habit baked into how you operate.
Setting up that review engine — the links, the QR codes, the follow-up, the responses — is one of the highest-ROI things I help local clients put in place. If your reviews have stalled out, book a free call and we’ll build a system that keeps them coming.
